Professor Mateusz Jagielski, MD, PhD (born on 18 August 1988 in Toruń, Poland) works at the Department of General, Gastrointestinal and Oncological Surgery, Collegium Medicum, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, at the Ludwik Rydygier Provincial Hospital in Toruń. In his daily clinical practice, he performs minimally invasive gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, particularly in patients with various disorders of the biliary tract and pancreas.

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Gdańsk and obtaining his medical license in 2013, Professor Jagielski has continuously focused his clinical practice on interventional endoscopic treatment of abdominal diseases. This has become the principal area of both his professional and scientific interests.

His clinical practice is closely linked to his academic career. Professor Jagielski frequently employs innovative minimally invasive treatment methods based on advanced endoscopic techniques. This enables continuous scientific development through the publication of clinical outcomes in patients with pancreatobiliary disorders, particularly those suffering from complications of inflammatory pancreatic diseases.

From 2013 to 2018, Professor Jagielski worked at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the Medical University of Gdańsk at the University Clinical Centre in Gdańsk. During this period, under the supervision of Professor Marian Smoczyński, he began and continued his training in interventional gastrointestinal endoscopy, with a particular focus on pancreatobiliary procedures.

Since 2018, he has worked at the Department of General, Gastrointestinal and Oncological Surgery, Collegium Medicum, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, at the Ludwik Rydygier Provincial Hospital in Toruń. Under the supervision of Professor Marek Jackowski, he has continued to develop his clinical expertise and academic interests.

In 2016, Professor Jagielski was awarded a PhD in Medical Sciences by the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Gdańsk on the basis of his doctoral dissertation entitled “Interventional Treatment of Pancreatic Necrosis.”

In 2019, he obtained his habilitation (DSc) in Medical Sciences, awarded by the Faculty of Medicine of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń on the basis of his habilitation thesis entitled “Endoscopic Treatment of the Consequences of Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis.”

Since 2020, he has held the position of University Professor at Collegium Medicum, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. In 2023, he was awarded the title of Professor of Medical and Health Sciences in the discipline of Medical Sciences by the President of the Republic of Poland (decision of 11 December 2023).

Professor Jagielski is the author or co-author of more than 200 full-text scientific publications published in renowned medical journals. He has delivered or co-authored more than 220 lectures and conference presentations, including 140 invited lectures at national and international scientific meetings. He has also served as a supervisor of five doctoral dissertations.

Professor Jagielski is a member of numerous Polish and international scientific societies and associations. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Board of the Endoscopic Surgery Section of the Association of Polish Surgeons. Since 2023, he has also served as a member of the Main Board of the Endoscopy Section of the Polish Society of Gastroenterology.

Professor Jagielski is the founder and lead instructor of a series of training courses in pancreatobiliary endoscopic surgery, organised for physicians from across Poland.

Since 2023, as Chairman of the Scientific and Organising Committee, he has continuously organised the International EUS & Endo Live Symposium and Workshops (Toruń Pancreatobiliary Endoscopy Workshops) at the Ludwik Rydygier Provincial Hospital in Toruń.
